Rolex Counterfeit Serial Number Check
Counterfeit Rolex watches tend to carry the same numbering again and again. Enter a serial number, and the clasp code if you have it, to see whether they fit the numbering our team has recorded on counterfeit watches.
How to read the result
| Result | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Strong match | The serial number and the clasp code together fit numbering we have recorded on counterfeit watches. This is a serious warning sign, though not proof on its own. | Do not buy or sell the watch until it has been inspected in person. |
| Possible match | The serial number fits numbering we have recorded on counterfeit watches. A small number of genuine watches fit by chance, so this is a warning sign, not proof. | Add the clasp code if you left it out, and have the watch inspected before you buy or sell. |
| No match | The serial number does not fit our records. Our records cover only some of the counterfeits in circulation, so this does not confirm the watch is genuine. | Work through the other checks in our guide on how to spot a fake Rolex. |
Where to find the numbers
- Serial number. On watches made from about 2011, it is 8 letters and digits engraved on the inner ring around the dial at 6 o'clock. See the Rolex serial number chart for where to look on older watches and how to date them.
- Clasp code. Stamped inside the clasp, close to the hinge. See the Rolex clasp code chart.
What this check can and cannot tell you
- It compares numbers with our records. It does not examine the watch, and a result is never proof either way.
- It covers 8-character serial numbers. Older watches with shorter serial numbers are outside its scope. Send us the number and we will look into it.
- The serial number comes first. A clasp code is checked only together with a serial number, because a clasp code on its own says very little.
- Our records are private. We do not publish the numbering we hold, because that would help counterfeiters avoid it.
- Checks are recorded. We keep a record of the numbers entered so we can spot patterns and improve our records.
